"Viajero", a collection of four paintings, references Guatemalan fauna, folk art, and indigenous textiles combined with the aesthetics of graffiti and graphic arts. Although these references originate from distinct sources, their visual similarities allow them to consequently coalesce. The series aims to represent in a symbolic and visual manner parts of my origin and my eventual adaptation to a new environment. It is this hybrid composite sense of culture that I hope to share with the viewer.
I am excited about the show and hope to see you there!
Special thanks to the Lullwood Group, check out their Facebook page for more events!
Special thanks to my friend Christopher Elliott Suniga
These works are just a small part of a series of animal figures I am working on regarding the experience of immigration. My hope is to have many of these figures as murals in the coming months. I will be posting many more soon.
These are a few of the recent works on display at R Gallery by my friend Rene Rodriguez (www.renerodriguezart.com). I attended school with Rene and was very impressed and excited to see such a positive progress in his art throughout the last year or two. It was very interesting to see the reference to culture in both his imagery as well as process. Most interesting to me is the reference to street culture in the mediums and process he is using, for example spray paint, markers, and screen printing, which do not seem forced as a means to please current trends but rather seem very genuine and honest. Refreshing.
Finally had a chance to paint and hang out with friends. We don't live in the same area so it's not often that we get to hang out and do what we love: paint walls...

My good friend and fellow artist Christopher Elliot Suniga will be having the closing reception of his solo exhibition Transmission, this Saturday, October 13, 2012 at SateFl!ght Gallery (2332 S. Presa). If you missed the opening reception, make plans to attend this Saturday. The show is a collection of works relating to issues of "sickness, human frailty, medical care, spiritual renewal, and ultimately death", all universal themes, yet also carrying personal significance for the artist. Don't miss it!
